Du 23 juin au 02 septembre 2007, l’histoire d’une grande exposition :
« Saint-Ursanne La Fantastique ! L’univers magique de John Howe ».
John Howe est un illustrateur Helvético-canadien qui est né en 1957 à Vancouver et a grandi en Colombie britannique. Il a étudié aux Écoles des Arts Décoratifs de Strasbourg, puis s’est lancé dans une carrière d’illustrateur « freelance » pour de nombreux ouvrages pour enfants et adultes. Très attiré par le monde médiéviste, il s’est fait une spécialité reconnue mondialement du genre « heroic fantasy ». Il est ainsi célèbre notamment pour avoir contribué au succès de l’œuvre de l’écrivain anglais J.R.R. Tolkien « Le Seigneur des Anneaux ». D’abord en illustrant les principales sorties en livre du récit depuis les années 80, puis comme travaillant comme directeur artistique des films créés par Peter Jackson autour de cette épopée de 2001 à 2014.
La ville entière fut recouverte de fanions « fantasy », le Cloître et la Galerie du Caveau accueillirent 2 expositions à grand succès. De nombreuses conférences littéraires et causeries, des concerts, des projections de films et des dédicaces – notamment avec Alan Lee – ont fait grand bruit dans les médias suisses de l’époque. Plus de 50’000 visiteurs (sans compter la fête médiévale qui lui fut naturellement dédiée) se pressèrent à St-Ursanne pour admirer l’alchimie entre un homme, son œuvre et un lieu et ses habitants; faisant ainsi de cet événement unique l’une des manifestations phare de l’été culturel 2007 en Suisse. Cet été si spécial permit aussi à de nombreux acteurs culturels et économiques de St-Ursanne te du Jura de poser de nouveaux jalons pour aborder les défis du 21ème siècle avec innovation et dynamisme.

John Howe ist ein kanadischer Schweizer Illustrator, der 1957 in Vancouver geboren wurde und in British Columbia aufgewachsen ist. Er studierte an der Écoles des Arts Décoratifs in Straßburg und begann dann eine Karriere als freier Illustrator für viele Bücher für Kinder und Erwachsene. Sehr angezogen von der mittelalterlichen Welt, hat er sich zu einer weltbekannten Spezialität des Genres „heroische Fantasie“ gemacht. Er ist berühmt für seinen Beitrag zum Erfolg der Arbeit des englischen Schriftstellers J.R.R. Tolkien „Der Herr der Ringe“. Zuerst illustrieren Sie die Hauptbuchveröffentlichungen der Geschichte seit den 1980er Jahren und arbeiten dann als künstlerischer Leiter der Filme, die Peter Jackson rund um dieses Epos von 2001 bis 2014 kreiert hat.

Mehr als 50.000 Besucher (ohne das mittelalterliche Fest, das ihm natürlich gewidmet war) eilten nach St-Ursanne, um die Alchemie zwischen einem Mann, seinem Werk und einem Ort und seinen Bewohnern zu bewundern, was dieses einzigartige Ereignis zu einem der Flaggschiffveranstaltungen des Kultursommers 2007 in der Schweiz machte. Dieser besondere Sommer ermöglichte es vielen Kultur- und Wirtschaftsakteuren in St-Ursanne te du Jura, neue Meilensteine zu setzen, um die Herausforderungen des 21. Jahrhunderts mit Innovation und Dynamik zu bewältigen.

Very attracted to the medievast world, it has been a specialty that is recognised globally as the heroic fantasy. More than 50 000 visitors (not to mention the medieval party that was naturally dedicated to him) rushed to admire alchemy between a man, his work and a place and his inhabitants, thereby making this unique event one of the flagship events in Switzerland. This so special summer also allowed many cultural and economic actors in St-Ursanne and from Jura to set new milestones to address the challenges of the 21st century with innovation and dynamism.
